米ユナイテッド航空（United Airlines）が、レギンスをはいていることを理由に少女2人の搭乗を拒否する出来事があり、
●搭乗拒否までの経緯
・シャノン・ワッツ氏のTwitter投稿で明らかになった
1) A @united gate agent isn't letting girls in leggings get on flight from Denver to Minneapolis because spandex is not allowed?
2) She's forcing them to change or put dresses on over leggings or they can't board. Since when does @united police women's clothing?

2) This behavior is sexist and sexualizes young girls. Not to mention that the families were mortified and inconveninced.
銃反対を訴える団体の創始者、シャノン・ワッツ氏がツイッターで２６日に投稿した内容から明らかになった。
少女らは着替えるか、レギンスの上に何かを着るかを迫られ、でなければ搭乗ができないと言われたと説明
「ユナイテッド航空はいつから女性の服装を取り締まるようになったのか」と疑問を投げかけている。
最初にご紹介したツイートは、4000件を超えリツイートされるなど大きな反響を呼んだ。

現場に居合わせ、一連の反論のきっかけを作った女性客のツイートによると、問題となったのはデンバーからミネアポリスに向かう便。
少女らは、着替えるか、レギンスの上に何か履くよう求められ、実行した結果搭乗が許可されたという。

それに対しユナイテッド航空も、ツイッターへの投稿で職員の対応を擁護。
さらにその後、搭乗を拒否された少女らは、従業員やその家族に適用される無料もしくは大幅値引きの特典の利用者であることを明らかにした。

少女がパスライダー、つまり「キャンセル待ちをしている(空席がある場合のみ搭乗可能)ユナイテッド航空の従業員または従業員の扶養者」であったことから、
自社のドレスコードに従ってもらう必要があったと説明しています。
